Faculty Book Scanning Service
Need a chapter or excerpt from a library book for your course? Faculty may request scans of up to 20% of a book from the library's collection, subject to copyright and fair use guidelines.
Before You Request
- Requests are limited to up to 20% of a book.
- Materials must comply with copyright and fair use requirements.
- Scanned materials intended for class use must be shared through a secure course platform, such as Canvas, that restricts access to enrolled students.
Fair Use Guidance
Not sure whether your request qualifies? Use the Fair Use Evaluation Tool to help determine whether your intended use meets fair use guidelines. For more information on copyright laws, please visit the Copyright, Fair Use, TEACH Act page.
How to Request a Scan
- Complete the Faculty Book Scanning Service Request Form.
- Library staff will review your request.
- You will be contacted if additional information is needed.
Note: To comply with copyright requirements, scanned materials for course use must be distributed through a platform that limits access to students enrolled in the course.
