Academic Success Center

 

We provide free tutoring to SDCCD students.  We are here to help you develop the skills needed to succeed in your academic journey.  We look forward to working with you soon!

Our in-person tutoring is available Monday through Thursday, from June 23, 2025, to August 14, 2025 (excluding holidays), at two locations on the San Diego Miramar College campus:  ASC (Room L-101) and Math Lab (Room M-210).  The information about in-person tutoring is under the "In-Person Tutoring" tab below.

Our online tutoring is through NetTutor from June 3, 2025 to August 24, 2025.  The information about online tutoring is under the "Online Tutoring" tab below.

Our Assignment Drop-off Service in Canvas is available from 10:00 a.m. on June 23, 2025, to 3:00 p.m. on August 12, 2025 (excluding holidays).  The information about our drop-off service is under the "Assignment Drop-Off Service" tab below.

We offer free in-person tutoring: 

  1. Academic Success Center, Room L-101

    1. Contact:  (619) 388-7852
    2. Dates of Operation:  June 23rd to August 14th
    3. Hours of Operation:  10 am-3 pm, Monday-Thursday
    4. ATTENTION:  Closed on Fridays and the weekends
    5. There is drop-in tutoring for English, grammar, and writing.  There are study rooms and tables for individual or group use.  There are tables, chairs, and dry erase boards and markers in the study rooms.  You can access anatomy models, microscopes, and textbooks.  You can use these resources on a drop-in basis.  There is also a pay-for-print service for copies.

  2. Math Support, in the Math Lab, Room M-210

    1. Contact:  (619) 388-7141
    2. Dates of Operation:  June 23rd to August 14th
    3. Hours of Operation:  10 am-3 pm, Monday-Thursday
    4. ATTENTION:  Closed on Fridays and the weekends
    5. Math support is provided on a drop-in basis.  Independent learning, collaboration space, computers, and printing.  The tutor availability is on myWCOnline.

     

  1. The ASC offers online tutoring through NetTutor.  It offers one-on-one, online meeting, paper drop-off, and question drop-off.  NetTutor can be accessed by clicking here (or this link https://sdccd.instructure.com/enroll/MEAEEJ ).  You will be taken to a new page titled "Enroll in Miramar Tutoring".  Click the "Enroll in Course" button on the right-hand side.  Then, you will be on the front page of the Miramar Tutoring Canvas course.  Click the "NetTutor" link on the left-hand side menu to access the online tutoring support.
  2. NetTutor is available from June 3rd to August 24th.

The assignment drop-off service will be available from 10:00 a.m., on Monday, June 23rd, to 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 12th. 

When you are using this service, make sure to fill out the required quiz.  Provide all the information about your prompt and if it is doable, attach your instructor's directions for your paper.

After submitting a paper, you should expect feedback in 48 hours (turnaround time).  Please note that the 48 hours are during our hours of tutoring operation (TBD).  The 48-hour turnaround time does not include Friday and the weekend.  A paper submitted on Thursday at noon should be returned to you at noon the following Tuesday.

E-mail a completed application and college transcript(s) to Donnie Tran at dtran@sdccd.edu .  Your transcript(s) must show a letter grade of B or higher in the courses you are interested in tutoring in.

Please do not attach additional attachments.  Documents such as letters of recommendation and resumes are not reviewed.

Must have successfully taken EDUC 100 or its equivalence before applying.  You cannot start work until you have EDUC 100 completed.


Here is what our screening/hiring process entails:
Step 1) Screen applications. Contact reference.
Step 2) Invite qualified applicants for an interview.
Step 3) Offer tutoring position to the successful applicant.
Step 4) Initiate SDCCD new hire paperwork.  Among the tasks, the successful applicant needs to get done fingerprinting and TB test and submit on the HR Web site a district's tutor application.
