9/11 Remembrance Event

The Fire Tech program at San Diego Miramar College held its annual 9/11 Remembrance event on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. in the courtyard of the R building. The ceremony was broadcast live on KUSI-TV news.

A ceremonial "last call" ringing of a fire bell took place to honor the 343 New York City firefighters lost that tragic day.

Fire Protection Technology professor Ron Edrozo discussed his deployment with the California Urban Search and Rescue Team 8 to the World Trade Center collapse. Edrozo is a retired captain from San Diego Fire and Rescue.

Boeing Hiring Event

 

For the second consecutive year, Boeing visited the Miramar College campus looking for qualified professionals to join the aerospace company. A Boeing hiring event took place Sept. 27 & Sept. 28. An informational presentation and pre-screening was held Thursday, Sept. 27 from 1pm-4:30pm in K1-202. Selected candidates were scheduled for interviews on Sept. 28.

Free Farmers Market Oct. 10

 

Round two of the Really Really Free Farmers Market will take place Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 9:45 a.m. until the food is gone. Produce will be made available to students, staff and faculty in front of the K-1 Student Services Building. Students are encouraged to bring their student ID and their own bags. 

Undocumented Student Week of Action Oct. 15-19

 

Miramar College will join over 70 California Community Colleges to celebrate Undocumented Student Week of Action Oct. 15-19.

The Week of Action is a statewide student-led campaign to advocate for a permanent solution to codify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that includes a pathway to citizenship, as well as to provide support and resources to California’s undocumented student population.

Miramar College will host its annual fall job fair on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 10am-2pm. Fifty-plus employers have registered to attend the event. Brush up those resumes and join us on Compass Point. Recent Miramar College Grad Runs for Mayor of Poway

 

Two short years ago, Emily Johnson sat in her senior civics class at Poway High School and listened as current Poway Mayor Steve Vaus asked the class about what they wanted to see changed in their city. Johnson, now 20, replied, “I would like to see more support in place for marginalized groups such as the homeless, LGBT, a women’s shelter even, and he (Vaus) told me it wasn’t the city’s job, and that if I wanted to see that changed I should run for office...and that frustrated me.”

ChemExpo 2018 Saturday, Oct. 27

 

In celebration of National Chemistry Week, San Diego Miramar College is hosting ChemExpo 2018 on Saturday, October 27 from 11am-3pm on Compass Point. Local company and organization booths will be on hand to illustrate how chemistry is applied at work and in everyday life. University students will stage demonstrations and the Miramar College Chemistry department will host DemoTables.
