Confidential Point of Contact (CPC)

Looking for Support or Information?

San Diego Miramar College is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members of our campus community.

If you have experienced harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or other concerns related to your identity or campus experience, you may have questions about your rights, available resources, or what steps to take.

Our Confidential Point of Contact (CPC) is available to listen, provide information, and help you explore your options in a supportive and confidential setting.

Under California Senate Bill 1491 (SB 1491), California Community Colleges are required to designate a Confidential Point of Contact to support LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff.

The CPC is available to help you:

  • Discuss concerns privately and confidentially
  • Learn about your rights and available protections
  • Understand reporting options and campus procedures
  • Connect with campus and community resources
  • Explore your options without pressure to file a formal complaint

You do not need to file a formal complaint to receive information or support.

What Can the Confidential Point of Contact Help With?

The CPC serves as a supportive resource for LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff who have questions or concerns about their campus experience.

The CPC can:

  • Provide a welcoming and respectful space to discuss concerns
  • Share information about campus policies, nondiscrimination protections, and Title IX
  • Explain reporting options and available complaint procedures
  • Connect individuals with campus and community support services
  • Help individuals make informed decisions about their next steps

What Is Outside the CPC's Role?

The Confidential Point of Contact provides information and support but does not investigate or resolve formal complaints.

The CPC:

  • Does not investigate allegations or determine whether college policies have been violated
  • Does not make disciplinary decisions or determine complaint outcomes
  • Does not automatically initiate a formal complaint when someone shares a concern
  • Does not disclose confidential information about alleged sexual harassment, sexual violence, or discrimination without the prior written consent of the person who provided the information, consistent with applicable law
  • Must comply with other applicable legal requirements, including mandatory reporting obligations that may apply in certain circumstances

Why Is the Confidential Point of Contact Important?

The CPC helps ensure that LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff have access to a trusted resource where they can ask questions, discuss concerns, and understand their options.

This role supports Miramar College's commitment to:

  • Providing a welcoming and affirming campus environment
  • Protecting individual privacy and confidentiality
  • Empowering individuals to make informed decisions
  • Improving access to campus and community resources
  • Strengthening support for LGBTQIA+ members of our campus community
