Company Officer Degree

The Company Officer Degree and Certificate of Achievement (COA) Program is offered to professional firefighters who are seeking promotional opportunities in the fire service and certification through State Fire Training.  The Company Officer Courses are taught during the Spring Semester at Miramar College.  For more class information, see the Accredited State Fire Training Courses webpage.  If you have completed any of the courses below without earning college credit, MIramar College will allow Credit for Prior Learning.  See the Credit for Prior Learning webopage for more information.  Credit for Prior Learning is allowed for a CA State Firefighter 1 Certifcation. 

The Associate of Science Degree in Fire Technology - Company Officer offered through San Diego Miramar College provides a clear guided pathway to meet the requirements for promotion to Company Officer. Miramar Fire Technology is an Accredited Regional Training Program (ARTP) through State Fire Training. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1021) Standards for Company Officer requirements are directly embedded into the Fire Technology Degree and Certificate of Achievement.

The Company Officer Degree has been closely coordinated between our agency stakeholders, including San Diego Fire Rescue Department, Cal Fire San Diego, San Diego County Fire Authority and Heartland Fire Training.  The Degree & Certificate program is approved through California State Fire Training, so not only will the graduates of the program earn their degree, but will be ready to meet the challenges leaders in the Fire Service.
