San Diego Miramar College diesel technology students Valentino Nevarez and Kevin Croan have been selected to compete in the American Trucking Association (ATA) and Truck Maintenance Council (TMC) Futuretech competition in Raleigh, NC Sept. 15-16. Both students, who are United State Marine Corps veterans, recently attended a “bootcamp” in Dallas, TX to train for the competition.

San Diego Miramar College has moved its food pantry from J-302, near the pool, to the student affairs lounge located on the second floor of the K-1 Student Services Building. The new food pantry occupies the one-time location of the campus Starbucks. The pantry’s hours of operation will be Monday-Friday 9am-1pm. Students are asked to bring a valid student ID and their own bags.
Using newly released federal workforce data, Georgetown University researchers tried to answer the age old question-Is College really worth it?
The answer, based on data provided from the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University, is a resounding YES! Especially for graduates of San Diego Miramar College.
Dr. Marsha Gable has been named interim president of San Diego Miramar College. She begins her term November 20, 2019. Dr. Gable joins Miramar College from Grossmont College in San Diego where she served as Vice President of Student Services since 2015.
Students interested in attending San Diego Miramar College next fall without having to pay tuition can sign up for the San Diego Promise program beginning January 13.
San Diego Miramar College has launched a Financial Aid Television (FATV) web portal to assist students with all their financial aid needs 24/7. Students and parents can now access FATV from their computer, smart phones or tablets on their terms.
San Diego Miramar College will host the 2020 San Diego Regional Science Olympiad Feb. 8. More than 1,000 middle and high school students will be on campus for the competition.
The numbers are in and San Diego Miramar College continues to have a “Best in Class” food rescue program. In 2019, the College distributed 72,679 pounds of rescued produce at its Free Farmer’s Market, which is held once a month on campus. The College also picked up and distributed another 29,200 pounds of food from the Feeding San Diego Retail Rescue Program. In total, 101,879 pounds or 51 tons of rescued food went to persons experiencing food insecurities instead of ending up in a landfill.
On Feb. 5, 2020 thousands of athletes signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at colleges all across the United States. On Thursday, Feb. 20, San Diego Miramar College is adding a new twist to this concept by hosting a Career Education signing day for San Diego Unified School District students wishing to pursue an educational career in high-wage, in demand fields such as Child Development, Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Biotechnology, Exercise Science, Entrepreneurship Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Technology.
