Bookstore Overcomes Covid-19 Obstacles to Remain Available to Students

On March 20, the Miramar College campus closed abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But while thousands of students and hundreds of employees scurried off campus to begin remote operations and learning, the Miramar College bookstore remained relatively unfazed. It had to! Short term classes were either ending or beginning and students needed books and supplies so as to not interrupt their education. That’s when Bookstore Supervisor Lilly Cava and her staff showed off their “Best in Class” spirit.

Jets Welcome Days to be Held August 18-20 and August 25-27

If you have ever been to campus during the first week of instruction, you have no doubt seen friendly Miramar College employees under teal tents ready to provide you the information you need to start a new semester. This year, due to COVID-19, things will be a little different. With campus closed to all but a few sections, we are ready to answer all your questions online during Jets Welcome Days. The virtual sessions begin August 18. Sessions will be held August 18-20 and again August 25-27.

UChat Feature Connects Students to Campus During the Pandemic

One of the busiest services on a college campus takes place late summer into early fall when the Outreach Team needs to make certain students are enrolled and ready to begin their college careers. Eleven strong, the Miramar College Outreach Team is the gatekeeper for most new students who arrive on an unfamiliar campus. Navigating ones first year of college can be tough especially during a worldwide pandemic. However, a new feature at Miramar College is helping students connect to the campus even while most Miramar College classes and services remain remote.

Help is Just a Zoom Away

The adjustment of moving from the comfort of in-person instruction to remote learning has had its effects on everyone. But mostly students. Many of whom now find themselves feeling a little lost or overwhelmed at times, especially at the start of a new semester. Just five short months ago, a student in need of a specific service could merely pop onto the Miramar College campus and find what they needed. Fast forward to present day and students now must seek those services online.
