Chemical Safety
San Diego Miramar College has several safety plans for managing hazardous chemicals. The Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) offers detailed procedures for laboratory safety, including chemical handling, PPE use, and waste disposal, specifically for areas that handle chemicals. It also ensures proper chemical storage and provides emergency response information to protect health, safety, and the environment.
Programs like automotive technology, diesel, and aviation follow the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan to prevent and manage oil spills, complying with state and federal regulations. The Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) minimizes chemical contamination in stormwater, with annual staff training to ensure effective implementation
Biological Safety
The Biological Hazardous Plan (Under Review) outlines safety protocols, training, and policies related to biological hazards, including bloodborne pathogens (e.g., HIV, hepatitis B, C), biological organisms (BSL 1 and 2), regulated medical waste, and sharps containers. It details procedures for handling regulated medical waste and ensures worker safety through policies aligned with CAL-OSHA and local regulations, as well as safety guidelines developed by Miramar College.
Physical Safety and Ergonomic
At San Diego Miramar College, physical safety efforts focus on preventing injuries related to lifting, pulling, stretching, and slip-and-fall hazards. Employees are encouraged to engage in regular stretching exercises to enhance flexibility and reduce the risk of muscle strain. To minimize slip-and-fall incidents, the college maintains clean, dry, and clutter-free walkways, and promotes the use of non-slip mats and appropriate footwear. These proactive measures help create a safer working environment for all staff and faculty.
Our Keenan Safe College Online Training Platform offers few courses in Office Ergonomic, Slip and Falls Prevention, and Lift training.
