Dr. Rachel E. Rose was named Acting Dean of Liberal Arts, effective October 8.
Dr. Rose brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education leadership and nearly three decades of expertise in family systems, counseling, and organizational development. She holds a Doctorate in Performance Psychology and a Master of Arts in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling.
Her leadership approach is grounded in family systems theory, which emphasizes the importance of relationships, communication, and alignment within complex organizations. This perspective has guided her work in fostering collaboration, building trust, and creating conditions in which students, faculty, and staff can thrive.
A tenured professor, department chair, and academic leader, Dr. Rose has demonstrated a deep commitment to teaching, faculty development, shared governance, and student success. Throughout her career, she has mentored faculty, cultivated emerging leaders, and championed practices that promote transparency, inclusion, and meaningful engagement across the college community.
As an Interim Dean within the San Diego Community College District, Dr. Rose has led efforts to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration, advance equity-minded initiatives, and align institutional resources with student needs. Her leadership experience includes serving six years as Chair of Chairs, co-chairing the Faculty Priority Hiring Committee, and serving on the San Diego Adult Education Regional Consortium Board, where she helped establish governance structures and oversee regional investments exceeding $13.3 million.
Dr. Rose's combination of faculty experience, administrative leadership, and expertise in human systems positions her well to support the School of Liberal Arts as it continues to advance its mission of academic excellence, collaboration, and student-centered learning.
