Wondering why you’ve been hearing drill commands and seen people jogging around the LLRC this summer? Due to the ongoing construction at the A200 building, the Police Academy has temporarily relocated to the main part of the college's campus.
The move, expected to continue through mid-August, ensures that Public Safety programs remain fully operational during construction. While crews work behind the scenes to upgrade A200's HVAC system, academy recruits will be attending classes and training out of the LLRC.
For many Public Safety students and faculty, the renovation is a welcome change. A200 has not undergone a major upgrade in nearly two decades, making this project a significant investment in the future of the program. Once completed, the improvements will provide a more comfortable and modern learning environment for the next generation of public safety professionals.
The project is one of many improvements being funded through Bond Measure HH, a $3.5 billion general obligation bond approved by San Diego voters in November 2024. The measure is helping transform campuses across the San Diego Community College District through facility upgrades, classroom renovations, infrastructure improvements, sustainability projects, and enhanced safety features.
While the academy's temporary move may bring a few more uniforms and training sessions to the main part of campus, it also offers a visible reminder of the school’s ongoing commitment to investing in student success. By the end of the summer, Public Safety students can look forward to returning to a refreshed A200 facility designed to better support their training and education for years to come.
