Aviation Trio Headed to Verticon 2026

Three current Miramar College Aviation students are headed to Verticon 2026 in Atlanta, GA March 8-12 to compete in the national aviation competition. Santiago Aguilar (far left), Steven Krause (middle left, and Brandon Wasilewski (middle right, will join Professor Eligio Damas (far right) will be the first team from Miramar College to ever attend the event.

Over winter break, they worked closely with Professor Eligio Damas, spending four focused weeks preparing for the FAA General written exam. While the national average for this exam is around 74%, these three students scored well above the national benchmark, earning a combined average of 86%. Their hard work, discipline, and commitment, both inside the classroom and on their own time, are clearly reflected in their success. 

Verticon 2026 is a major national aviation competition that brings together top students and professionals to showcase technical knowledge, problem solving skills, and industry readiness. Southwest Airlines is generously donating the trio's round-trip flights to the competition.
