The Miramar College Foundation elected Dr. Steven Jones to serve as a community board member at its Nov. 12, 2025 board meeting.
Dr. Steven Jones is the CEO of Global LeaderSHYFT, inc. a global leadership development consulting firm dedicated to helping leaders achieve excellence across cultures, countries, and time zones. A longtime resident of San Diego since 1987, Dr. Jones has provided consulting and executive coaching services for over 35 years to local, national, and global organizations.
Dr. Jones currently serves as a Human Relations Commissioner for the City of San Diego. He also serves on the UCSD Chancellor’s Community Advisory Board. He is also a Board member of Academy of Our Lady of Peace, the only all-girls Catholic School in San Diego County. He serves as the Board Vice-Chair, on the Reality Changers Board, an organization dedicated to preparing youth to become first-generation college graduates and agents of change in their communities.
Dr. Jones is a former Board Member of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC), as well as, a former member of the LEAD San Diego and University Club Atop Symphony Tower Board. He has previously served as the President/CEO of the City of San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Jones has provided organizational change consulting and leadership development services to organizations such as ASML, City of San Diego, City of San Francisco, County of San Diego, Francis Parker School, Federal Defenders of San Diego, Harvard University, Honda, Lewis-Brisbois, the NBA, Qualcomm, San Diego City College, SDG&E, Southwestern College, The YMCA of SD County, TikTok, Toyota, and University of San Diego.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a Master’s in Counseling, and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
In the global arena, while he was studying business practices in Chang Mai, Thailand, Dr. Jones became the first person of African descent to be ordained as a Buddhist Monk at a 700 year old monastery called Wat Umong.
