San Diego Miramar College conferred 2,112 total awards at its annual commencement ceremony held Friday, May 17 on Compass Point.
For the 2023-2024 academic year, Miramar College conferred 1,405 degrees and another 697 Certificate of Achievements for a total of 2,112 awards. The total amount of associate degrees awarded represents a 12% increase over last year. The College also saw a 26% rise over the number of certificate of achievements earned year over year.
Of the 1,405 associate degrees conferred, 697, or 49%, were Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT), thus demonstrating that Miramar College will have prepared nearly half its degree earning students for transfer to a 4-year university. Miramar College students earned 5% more ADT’s this year than last academic year.
Two-hundred and thirty-six first generation college students received their degrees.
Three-hundred-thirty-one students attended the ceremony to hear their names called.
Samdrea Hsu, a member of the Miramar College women’s indoor and beach volleyball teams, was the student speaker. Hsu, a graduate of Westview High School in San Diego, is a 4.0 student studying computer engineering.
“I am delighted to see that our numbers of degree and certificates granted has grown greatly over the past year,” said Dr. Wesley Lundburg, president of San Diego Miramar College. “This improvement is a testament to the great work our faculty, staff and students have done the past year to improve our learning outcomes. I couldn’t be happier for the graduates and their families, and I thank them for entrusting Miramar College to assist them in meeting their educational goals.”
