The higher education community celebrates Financial Aid Awareness Month, in an effort to disseminate financial aid information to students and families about access to federal, state, and institutional student aid.
February is Financial Aid Awareness Month!
A reminder that filling out the FAFSA is free!
You can fill out the FAFSA through their webpage: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
- There are currently 2 applications available:
- The 2021-2022 Application is applicable for the current Spring 2022 Semester.
- The 2022-2023 Application is applicable for the upcoming Fall 2022 Semester.
- For students that have never filed the FAFSA before, they will first need to create a FSA ID through here: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
For returning students, they can proceed through the “Returning User?” option.
Students are advised to prepare the following for the FAFSA Application:
- Social Security Number or Alien Registration Number (if not a US citizen)
- Driver’s License Number (optional)
- Federal income tax returns for both student and parents (if dependent). These can be retrieved using the on-site IRS Data Retrieval Tool
- Any records of other financial and nontaxable income (veteran benefits, welfare benefits, investments, etc.)
- Students will be able to list up to 10 schools to send their FAFSA Application to.
- The school code for San Diego Miramar College is 014172
- Remember to sign the application before submitting!
Once you submit the application, it takes about 2 business weeks for the school, Financial Aid Office to receive your FAFSA information.
