Miramar College to Host Science Olympiad February 8

San Diego Miramar College will host the 2020 San Diego Regional Science Olympiad Feb. 8. More than 1,000 middle and high school students will be on campus for the competition.

Science Olympiad (SO) is a nationwide competition. Students compete in 23 events that include earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Science Olympiad is designed to increase a student’s interest in STEM fields and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. Students compete in Science Olympiad with the top teams advancing from Regional to State to National levels.

Eligible counties: San Diego and Imperial. Schools within San Diego and Imperial counties may send up to 6 teams to compete at the San Diego Regional Tournament.

Miramar College will offer its new state of the art labs for use. Staff and faculty will also be on hand to offer volunteer support services for the day long competition.

A second San Diego regional tournament will be held March 21, 2020 at the University of San Diego. Regional winners will advance to the Southern California State Tournament in Pasadena on April 4. California winners advance to the Science Olympiad National Tournament at North Carolina State University in Raleigh May 15-16.
