Undocumented Student Week of Action Oct. 15-19

Miramar College will join over 70 California Community Colleges to celebrate Undocumented Student Week of Action Oct. 15-19.

The Week of Action is a statewide student-led campaign to advocate for a permanent solution to codify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that includes a pathway to citizenship, as well as to provide support and resources to California’s undocumented student population.

Miramar College will start a postcard advocacy drive Monday, Oct. 15 through Thursday, Oct. 18 from 10am-1pm outside the K-1 building. This drive is designed to gather legislative support for undocumented students. A “Know Your Rights” webinar will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 11am-12pm in K1-202. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the College’s annual Transfer Fair will showcase the resources available to undocumented students wishing to transfer to a 4-year university.

According to the Community College League of California, “Undocumented Student Week of Action offers the state’s 114 community colleges and 2.1 million students the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the issues confronting undocumented students pursuing further education for themselves and their families.

During the Week of Action, colleges, faculty, students and partner organizations are encouraged to contact their Congressional representatives, sign postcards in support of DACA, register students to vote, and host events to assist undocumented students.
