Bio
Hello! My name is Torey, and I grew up in San Diego—specifically, the East County area. I was a community college student myself and attended the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District as a first-generation student. After completing my Associate Degree for Transfer, I transferred to San Diego State University (SDSU), where I earned my B.A. in Communication Studies in 2016 and my M.A. in Communication Studies in 2018.
After graduating, I served as an adjunct instructor at various community colleges in the San Diego region, including Miramar College, and continued as a lecturer at SDSU. I am now a full-time instructor here at Miramar College, which feels like coming full circle—Miramar was the first community college that hired me after graduate school!
I’ve taught many different courses in the Communication Studies discipline, but I particularly enjoy teaching public speaking. I appreciate the confidence students gain in themselves as their public speaking skills grow. I genuinely value the relationships I’ve been able to build with my students. As a former non-traditional student myself, I bring that perspective into the classroom and try to create an environment where students feel seen, supported, and maybe even entertained along the way.
Classes I Teach
COMM C-1000 Public Speaking.
COMS 135 Interpersonal Communication.
COMS 201 Communication and Community.
More Information
I truly enjoy being a professor here at Miramar College. More than anything, I love building relationships with students, helping them navigate college, and cheering them on every step of the way.
If you ever need anything—whether you're a former student, current student, future student, or just someone connected to the Miramar community—please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m always happy to help, offer support, or simply chat. I do love to talk… which is probably why I majored in Communication Studies! 😄
