Undocu-Ally Training

The term ‘Undocu-Ally' refers to any person who is an ally to the undocumented, DACA-mented, immigrant, and refugee communities. Undocu-Allies create safe, affirming spaces for undocumented students and advocate for the advancement of policies to support this special population of learners.

We offer several versions of Undocu-Ally Training (UAT) that differ in their focus including two foundational sessions, UAT 1 & 2; UAT: Technical; and in collaboration with our legal aid partners UAT: Learning the Legalese. Meeting Details

All sessions are conducted via Zoom from 10:00–11:00 am on the dates below. You will receive a confirmation email within three to five business days including meeting access details after filling out the interest form at forms.office.com/r/uNVbjJGNDs. Note, there is only one interest form for all training sessions.

UAT 1: We Welcome Dreamers

This general overview is a good place to start. You will be introduced to some key concepts and definitions, learn about our programs and services, and discover who is and is not undocumented—a person's immigration status can be much more complex than you think!

UAT 2: Becoming a Better Ally

Pre-requisite: UAT 1: We Welcome Dreamers
This session dives deeper into how best to support undocu-students both in and out of the classroom. You will learn more about the unique challenges immigrant students and their families must overcome and discover the contributions undocumented individuals bring to our communities.

UAT: Technical

Designed with our student services professionals in mind but open to all, you will learn more about policies, procedures, and best practices for supporting undocumented students. Topics include residency requirements, financial aid eligibility, access to public assistance programs, undocu-friendly transfer guidance, and employment eligibility.

UAT: Learning the Legalese

Laws related to immigration and undocumented individuals can change wildly and often with little notice. Federal litigation in these matters can create many grey areas that cause ambiguity when supporting undocumented students. The Miramar Dreamers staff and our partners at the Higher Education Legal Services are your resource for understanding these complexities.
