Before coming to Miramar College, I worked as a prosecuting attorney for almost 20 years, handling criminal cases from investigation and charging through trial, sentencing and appeal. My teaching method uses that lens of professional experience, drawing upon real-world examples and cases to bring abstract legal concepts into focus. You can find a wealth of information about the law and the courses that I teach, including slides, syllabi and videos, at scottamoller.com.

I transitioned from working as a police field-training officer to an adult educator when I began working as a law enforcement academy instructor at the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute. In addition to my Leadership Studies M.A. degree, I continued to develop as a professional facilitator, trainer, and instructional designer when I completed the Master Instructor Certification Course with California POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training), whereupon I was awarded a certificate of “Master Instructor.”

As a result of earning this certificate, I have proficiency in instructional systems design specifically; creating survey and evaluation instruments, course topic research, lesson planning, constructing learning activities, incorporating blended learning, developing training materials, designing effective visual aids, conducting course evaluation and revision, projecting course budget, logistical planning, and course marketing.
