Here is the process to take a math challenge exam:

Step 1 (Form): Submit a Petition to Challenge Form with Admissions: https://www.sdccd.edu/students/forms-and-documents.aspx; Select the form "Petition to Challenge." Follow the directions for downloading, completing, and submitting the form. Once you submit the form, please email the Assistant Math Chair, Professor Julia McMenamin (jmcmenam@sdccd.edu) with your SRV number.

Step 2 (Challenge Exam): After you have had enough time to review the material, you will come to the Miramar Campus and take the challenge exam. You will be notified via email with your results.

Additional Information: Scientific calculators are allowed on the challenge exams. Formula sheets are NOT allowed. Graphing calculators are NOT allowed. Students can only take the challenge exam once.

Are you a student trying to enroll in Math 151 or higher? If so, you need to contact Miramar Counseling first.

Have you successfully taken one year of Precalculus in high school? If so, you are allowed to take Math 150. Please contact Miramar Counseling for more information.

Students with any milestone level are allowed to enroll in Math 104X, Math 141X, Math 150X, Math 116X, Math 119X, and Math 121X. If you are trying to enroll in a non-X class, please follow the challenge exam process listed above.

For challenge exams, below are useful resources. For the Trigonometry and Precalculus Challenge Exams, please know your UNIT CIRCLE. Review the corresponding textbook and try practice problems at the end of each chapter. Check your answers using the answer keys included in the textbook.
When Taking the Exam:
- Please bring your photo ID when you take the exam.
- You have 2 hours to take the challenge exam.
- Scientific calculators are allowed. I can provide a scientific calculator for you to use.
- Formula sheets are NOT allowed. For the Trigonometry and Precalculus Challenge Exams, please know your UNIT CIRCLE.
- Show your work on the exam to receive credit.
- It will be graded within 48 hours.
- All questions are equal value.
- You can only take the exam once. You cannot retake or try again next week or next semester, etc.
- You must schedule a date for the challenge exam by emailing Julia McMenamin (jmcmenam@sdccd.edu).
Location for Challenge Exam:
- Location: You will come to the Miramar Math Lab (M210). M210 is located on the 2nd floor of the M building on the Miramar Campus. If you are in the M building and you walk up the stairs, M210 is the glass doors on the left (near the bathrooms).
- There is a parking structure (G-3) right next to the M building. If you go to the second floor of the parking structure, you will see parking for students. Please see the Campus Map. You can use this address in Google Maps to get to the parking structure: 9345 Hillery Drive, San Diego, CA 92126.
- There is also a transit center located right next to the M building.
- Please display a parking pass. You will need to pay for parking. More information about parking is located here.
- You must schedule a date for the challenge exam by emailing Julia McMenamin (jmcmenam@sdccd.edu).
