Paul Pablo Martin

Bio

My name's Pablo and I grew up in North County San Diego. I went to U.C. Santa Cruz for college because I love redwoods and figured going away to college would give me a chance to spread my wings and develop as an individual. (I now recognize the privilege that allowed me to have that choice!)  I earned my B.A. in Cultural Anthropology, completing my degree studying in Indonesia, an experience that opened my eyes to a new world of possibilities. After graduating, I taught English at Torrey Pines High School before earning an M.A. in Communication from SDSU. (I went back to SDSU and completed a second Master’s degree, this one in Environmental Studies and Sustainability.) I’ve taught at the university and community college level since 2005 and have been a full-time professor at San Diego Miramar College since 2014. One of the things I love about being a full professor is the opportunity to help govern the college—whether that’s through participating in committees and forums or serving in my current role as Academic Senate President. In addition to my other duties on campus, I’m currently developing an international exchange with partners in La Ventana, Mexico, with a focus on sustainability. I love teaching, and my favorite part of working with students is helping them explore and find their path in the world. I also love to share my passion for social and environmental concerns. Toward these ends, I have worked with labor groups and think tanks, coordinated a number of different community and college events, and when time allows, help out my community and neighborhood in various ways.
