Students from San Diego Miramar College’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Fire Academy programs demonstrated their commitment to service and community engagement by volunteering in a campus clean-up at Lincoln High School on august 7. The effort was part of preparations to launch Lincoln High School’s Fire Program for the upcoming academic year.
The student volunteers—future first responders—spent the day working alongside faculty, San Diego Fire and community leaders to ensure the facility was ready to welcome the next generation of fire service students. Their willingness to dedicate their time and energy is a testament to their dedication to the communities they will one day serve.
Councilmember Henry L. Foster III (District 4) joined the event, underscoring the importance of partnerships between educational institutions, community leaders, and public safety programs.
Miramar College faculty leaders Engineer Matthew Jewett and Mary Kjartanson guidance and leadership made this volunteer effort possible.
"Our EMT and Fire Academy students are not only training to save lives—they’re already stepping up to serve," said Dean, Jacqueline Hester, Ph.D,. "This event shows their strong commitment to the community and the public safety profession."
The collaboration between Miramar College and Lincoln High School reflects a shared goal: to provide students with meaningful, hands-on opportunities that connect classroom learning with real-world service.
