Miramar College is hosting the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) Mission 3 Innovate! Event, from the 21st through the 24th of January. This is a capstone event for students who successfully completed the NCAS Mission 1 and Mission 2 challenges held throughout the year. Mission 3 includes tours of local industry and university laboratories, a speaker from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratories, a resume workshop and an internship panel of former NCAS scholars. The highlight of the event is a robotics competition, held in a simulated Martian environment. The 2025 scholars come from the SDCCD colleges, as well as Norco College (Norco, CA) and Union College (Cranford, N.J).
Two dozen community college students are spending this week on campus as part of the NASA Community college Aerospace Scholars Mission 3 project. Students will break up into teams and design and build a robotics rover. A competition will be held to see who has the top rover and prize money will be awarded to the winning team. Over the week, these students will visit the engineering labs at UC San Diego, tour General Atomics, and hear from NASA JPL program manager Dr. Farisa Morales.
