Title: Latinx Heritage Month Kick-Off 

Date: Monday, September 16, 2024 

Time: 12:30pm – 1:30pm 

Location: K2 Community Lounge 

Event Description: The LEAD Office in collaboration with the Outreach Office invite you to join us in celebration of Latinx Heritage Month at the Welcome Center located in K2-101! Title: Poetry Reading with Dr. Adrian Arancibia 

Date: Tuesday, September 17, 2024

Event Description: Adrián Arancibia is an author and critic based in San Diego, California. He is a founder of the seminal Chicano/Latino performance poetry collective Taco Shop Poets and is the author of Atacama Poems on San Diego City Works Press, The Keeper/El Guadador on Editorial Ratona Cartonera, Poems of Exhaustion on Parentheses BC Press. Born in Iquique, Chile, he is a Literature Ph.D., and is professor of English, Creative Writing, and Chicano Studies.

Title: Club Rush featuring Mariachi Serenade San Diego 

Date: Wednesday, September 18, 2024 

Time: 12:00pm – 2:00pm 

Location: Compass Point 

Event Description: Learn about our student clubs and leadership opportunities.  We will feature San Diego's Best Mariachi, Mariachi Serenade San Diego, is a group of passionate mariachi musicians with the same goal in mind, to bring QUALITY mariachi entertainment to the public. Our musical background is diverse and includes traditional mariachi music passed down from older generations to classical voice training from SDSU.

Title: Hearing Marginalized Voices Through Poetry 

Date: Thursday, September 26, 2024 

Time: 12:00pm – 1:30pm 

Location: Library Atrium 

Event Description: Sandy Shakes is a spoken truth artist from Boyle Heights. She's performed across LA, San Diego, New Mexico, and El Paso, collaborating with many poetic organizations. Her work has been featured in anthologies, and she has led workshops, spoken in classrooms and appeared on podcasts. In 2024, she released her ­rst poetry chapbook, "Scribble Scrabbles." Title: Medical Spanish Workshop

Event Description: This workshop is an introduction to medical expressions to help patients, doctors, nurses, and any other interested people communicate basic medical needs in Spanish.  This workshop is intended for all.
