Miramar College Extends Remote Operations Through Feb. 18, 2022

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the San Diego Community College District's highest priority has continued to be the health and safety of its employees and students. In recognition of the current spike in cases largely due to the Omicron variant, the San Diego Community College District has decided to have most District employees work remotely through February 18, 2022.

As a result, Miramar College will temporarily close its campus and move both instruction and student services to remote delivery beginning Monday, January 3, 2022 through Friday, January 28, 2022.  We expect to reopen for in-person services on Monday, January 31, 2022 when the Spring 2022 semester begins.

The exception to this closure and move to remote delivery will be athletics and Intersession classes that were scheduled to be held in-person. All athletic program activities will continue as scheduled and our athletic teams will be subject to weekly testing. Both athletics and instruction will follow their currently adopted COVID-19 protocols, however spectators will no longer be permitted to attend athletic events until further notice.

All Student Services offices, including Student Health, will provide remote services throughout this period. Most will offer remote services Monday - Thursday between the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm and Friday between 8:00am - 1:00pm.  Students are advised to refer to specific department web pages for any additional updates. Also check your email and Canvas messages in your portal for additional information.

Food services will be closed during this period. The SDCCD Police business office will be open from 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, however they will continue to respond to emergency calls through their dispatch services. The SDCCD Police business office on campus will be closed Jan.14-Jan. 17 and resume operations on Tuesday, January 18.

The bookstore will continue to process online orders and they will still serve students through their service window.

Here are the hours for window services:

Jan. 3rd - Jan. 28th : Mon - Thu: 9:00am - 3:00pm, Fri: 9:00am - 12:00pm.

Students can call the bookstore during these hours: 619-388-7866.

Vaccination Status and Access to Onsite Activities

During the fall semester, the District was able to provide students with exemptions to the vaccination requirement with accommodations which included in-person instruction and services. Due to the much higher rate of COVID transmission occurring in our region, in-person instruction will be limited primarily to students who have been fully vaccinated. Limiting access to our programs is a difficult decision given the open access educational services we are committed to providing our communities. However, the District does not have the physical environment and resources to effectively accommodate in-person instruction for students who have not been vaccinated at this time. A limited number of specific programs and courses, which are primarily outdoors and in large venues, will proceed with limited accommodations. Please speak with your Dean or Vice President of Instruction for further details.

We fully appreciate the complexities created by hybrid operations and changes to months of planning for the spring semester. Thank you for your continued flexibility and participation in planning, adjusting plans, and continuing to serve our communities through multiple modalities. We encourage everyone to get vaccinated and booster doses as soon as you are eligible, continue wearing face coverings in all public settings, maintaining physical distancing whenever possible, and getting tested for COVID whenever you are experiencing symptoms or suspect you have been exposed to the coronavirus.

Courses scheduled to be in-person will proceed as planned, based on enrollment. Currently, the majority of enrollments are in online courses, so there will likely be fewer in-person classes than initially planned.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may create and appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we do our best to assist with limiting the spread of the virus.
