John Landicho Takes Over Women's Volleyball Program

Miramar men's volleyball head coach John Landicho will now assume the role of Jets women's head coach volleyball coach, beginning with the upcoming 2021 women's volleyball season.

The move takes advantage of Landicho's presence on-campus as a full-time professor and coach, and for the college in the next step in developing a comprehensive volleyball program for the campus. Both a sand volleyball team and accompanying sand volleyball courts, are in the final stages of planning for the near future. Landicho takes over for Mark Smith, who started the Miramar women's volleyball program in 2018.

"I am honored to lead Miramar women's volleyball program," said Landicho. "I look forward to bringing the culture and process of our championship-winning men's program over to the women's program, and write a new chapter for Jets women's volleyball. I also look forward to helping the Miramar Athletic Department continue planning for the addition of sand volleyball to our programs, with a vision of having a great volleyball program and culture for student-athletes to take advantage of and experience."

Landicho brings great women's volleyball experience to the athletic department. His five CIF girls volleyball state championships (two as a head coach) is a San Diego County record. Landicho's last led a women's volleyball program, as head coach for Francis Parker High School, resulting in a 64-7 record over two seasons and two CIF state titles. At the community college level, he has also helped women's volleyball programs at Grossmont College and San Diego Mesa College to conference championships as an assistant coach.
