CARES Act Emergency Grant Application for Students

Through the support of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, San Diego Miramar College is able to offer emergency financial aid grants to eligible students for specific expenses that are a direct result of the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19.

SD Miramar College will be using a district-wide online application to develop a list of eligible students to receive funding from the allotted CARES Act funds.The application will be sent to students through their mySDCCD student portal the week of May 11th. The application link can be found here as well: https://mysdccd.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/4/create/78.

If you are a SD Miramar College student who meets FAFSA eligibility criteria and you have encountered economic hardships as a result of the disruption to campus operations due to COVID-19 pandemic, you can apply for an emergency grant of up to $350.  As funds are limited, submission of an application does not guarantee the issuance award.

Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible to receive funds if you meet the following requirements:

  • SD Miramar is your primary campus of attendance (i.e., campus of record) 
  • You are currently enrolled at SD Miramar for at least 6 units during Spring 2020
  • You have completed a FAFSA for 2019-2020, or,
  • You are eligible to complete a FAFSA for 2019-2020
    • You have a valid Social Security Number
    • You have registered with selective service (males only)
    • You have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • You are a US citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • You have met financial aid satisfactory academic progress standards
  • You are not in default on a Title IV federal student loan or owe a refund on a Title IV federal student grant or loan overpayment

You are not eligible to receive funds if you are a/an:

  • International Student
  • Undocumented Student
  • Non-matriculated student
  • Student enrolled in distance-only degree program

 


 

Qualified COVID-19 expenses include economic hardships related to: 

  • Food
  • Housing
  • Course materials
  • Technology
  • Health Care
  • Childcare

 

About the Fund 

  • SD Miramar will provide eligible full-time students (12 units or more) with an emergency grant of $350.  Eligible part-time students (6 - 11.9 units) will received an emergency grant of $300.  
  • Initial awards will be distributed for the Spring 2020 term.  If funds remain after the Spring disbursement, additional awards may be awarded for the Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 terms until all the CARES Act funds are exhausted.
  • This award is not a loan and does not have to be paid back
  • Funding from the CARES Act Grant will not impact a student’s financial aid package.
  • CARES Act grants cannot be used to cover and satisfy a student’s outstanding account balance. The student may use their emergency financial aid grant for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus including, hardships related to food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare.

Deadline:

Students must apply for funds by Monday, May 25, 2020.  Submission of an application does not guarantee the issuance of an award.  To have the best opportunity to receive this funding, please apply soon.  

Receiving the Award

  • Applicants will be provided with a link to check the status of their application 
  • Funds will be awarded by check and mailed to the student’s current mailing address only.
  • Please check that your current MAILING address is correct in your mySDCCD student portal.
