The Child Development Center at San Diego Miramar College had its National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation reaffirmed for a five-year term through January 1, 2024.
In order to reaffirm its NAEYC accreditation, the Child Development Center had to undergo a rigorous review process that included passing all ten NAEYC standards with a score of at least 80% or higher. The Center scored 100% (adjusted scores) on all ten standards.
“The Center staff is delighted to have achieved this significant re-accreditation status,” said Patti Hunter, Miramar College Child Development Center director. “For us to receive this accreditation for a third consecutive term speaks volumes about what we do here at the center. We are licensed like most other centers, but we continue to demonstrate how we exceed most standards set forth for child development centers.”
“This is a great tribute to our families, students and all those involved to achieve this highest mark of quality and it is wonderful that this tradition of receiving accreditation continues,” said Dr. Dawn DiMarzo, department chair Child Development at Miramar College.
Located in the heart of the Mira Mesa campus, the center is currently licensed to serve 48 children a semester ranging in ages from 2 to 5 years-old. Over 100 students a week in the College’s Child Development training programs come through the center to study as part of their practicum.
The Child Development Center operates as an instructional program for students and parents and offers a California state-funded preschool program for children, ages 2 to 5, of parents attending San Diego Miramar College. The center offers a rich variety of classroom and outdoor activities for children, which encourage a sense of self-worth and creative expression.
Licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing, Title 22 (Division 12), the center meets the guidance of the California Department of Education, Title 5. The Center staff meets the education qualifications for Child Development Permits, issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentials.
