Committee Purpose/Charge

To internationalize and promote global awareness at Miramar College through programming, curriculum, and professional development; To provide and promote study abroad opportunities through Miramar College in ways that align with the desires, challenges and obstacles of our students; to increase the diversity of students who study abroad; and to increase accessibility of these programs; To develop a structure for International Student recruitment and support; To provide a vehicle by which educators will have opportunities to teach and engage in experiences abroad; To increase the college's engagement with international institutions and organizations of higher ed through programs for students and campus employees.

Committee Responsibilities

  • To support international education on campus, including study abroad programs, internationalstudents, and increasing global awareness on campus.
  • To provide and promote study abroad opportunities for students in ways that align with the desires,challenges, and obstacles of our students focusing on inclusion and diversity.
  • To assist faculty in developing study abroad programs and seeking bids for contracts.
  • To represent Miramar study abroad contracts at the District International Education Committee.
  • To support faculty and students pre-, during-, and post-study abroad experiences.
  • To formalize a structure to increase recruitment of International Student enrollments
  • To develop a social structure for international students with programming and support.
  • To support internationalization and global awareness across campus in curriculum, programming,and professional development.
  • To promote international professional development opportunities for campus employees, includingfaculty, Classified Professionals, managers, and administrators\
     

Committee Procedures

  • Membership term lengths: Unless membership is designated by position, there is a two (2) yearappointment with an option for an additional two-year service, and the possibility of 1 additional term if the position remains available.
  • Recommendations made to College Council and District International Education Committee.Approvals for Study Abroad are made by the Board of Trustees. Changes to International Studentpolicies and procedures are made by the U.S. government.
  • The District International Education Committee has final approval over all changes to policies andprocedures.
  • Authority to form task forces and workgroups related directly to committee charge.

Meeting Frequency

The Committee will meet once per month during the academic year.

The District International Education Committee will meet once per month during the academic year (Required attendees: Chair, Dean).
