
Bio
Since 2004,Bing hasbeen an adjunct professor of music at variouscommunity colleges in the
San Diego region, including Miramar College, Mesa College, Grossmont College, and
Southwestern College. The variety of courses he has taught encompass Introduction to Music,
World Music, History of Rock Music, Basic Musicianship, and Piano.At Mesa College,Bing
hasalsodirectedthe Applied Music Program master class and performance forum for music
majors,and organizedweekly concert eventsas director of the Recital Hour.In addition,Bing
maintains a private studio where he teaches violin to students of varying age and background.
Besides teaching,Bing is also an avid performerof music.As a classical violinist,he has
performedextensivelyas a soloist and as a member of various ensembles such asthe Cabrillo
Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta de Baja, Opera de Tijuana,Oberon Trio,and La Jolla Symphony.
And withhisdiverse interest in music,Bing hashad the wonderful opportunity to learn and
performvariousmusicand associatedinstrumentsfrom around the world, includingTaiko
drumming, Mariachi, IndonesianBalinese and Javanesegamelan, Japanese chorus (conductor
andsinger), Chinese ensemble, Finnish ensemble, Koreansamulnori, Persian music,African
Shonambira,andothers.
Bing obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s (Ethnomusicology) degrees in music at San Diego
State University and hasalso pursued doctoral work in Music Education, with specific interest in
World Music education, at Boston University.
