San Diego City, Mesa and Miramar Colleges, and the College of Continuing Education are joining the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office during Undocumented Student Week of Action beginning October 18 to strengthen advocacy for students that identify as undocumented, Dreamers, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and students from mixed status families. The public is welcome to join the colleges for virtual workshops, panels, and film discussions.
This year marks the fifth annual Undocumented Student Action Week, which supports the needs of more than 72,000 undocumented students enrolled in community colleges across California. On Monday the celebration will kick off with a call to action of Assembly Bill (AB) 540, as events take place during the same month as the 20th anniversary of the passage of AB 540, the landmark legislation that opened doors to higher education for thousands of undocumented students.
