History of Education Essay Contest

The History of Education Society invites undergraduate students enrolled in California community colleges to submit original essays on the history of education. The jury, consisting of History of Education Society, will select up to eight finalists to present posters of their research at the Annual Meeting of the History of Education Society at the Doubletree Hotel Mission Valley, November 4-7, 2021. Winners will be based on these presentation.

Guidelines:

Please submit original essays in the field of history of education, understood broadly to include educational institutions, policies, processes, popular cultural, and ideas. 

Contest Rules:

*Papers may be sole or group authored. All authors must be undergraduate students enrolled part or full-time in a California community college as of Spring or Summer 2021. Authors may not submit more than one paper.

*Papers should be between 3500 and 5000 words. Double spaced. Times New Roman. 12 point. One inch margins. Aligned left and not justified.

*Papers should include primary research situated within secondary literature and make an original argument.

*Footnotes should conform to the journal article format of the Chicago Manual of Style.

*Papers previously submitted for course credit are welcome , but should be clean of editorial comments.

*Papers should be clear of any identifying information for blind review.

*All papers are due no later than midnight, PST, on Sept. 1, 2021.

*Finalists will be notified by Sept. 24.
